Gin with Strawberries, Balsamic Vinegar, and Black Pepper

Featuring Mango, Apricot, Strawberry Balsamic Vinegar


Three fresh strawberries (or frozen whole)
1/2 oz lemon juice
1/2 oz Mango Apricot Strawberry Balsamic Vinegar
1/2 oz black pepper syrup*
2 oz gin
Spritz of soda
Sprig of basil or mint for garnish


Muddle three fresh strawberries, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, black pepper syrup, and gin together in a mixing glass. Add ice, shake and strain into a rocks glass filled with crushed ice and top with a spritz of soda.

Garnish with a sprig of basil or mint.

*Black Pepper Syrup (from Food and Wine)

In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup water to a boil, Add 1/2 cup sugar and stir over moderately high heat until dissolved. add 1/4 cup coarsely cracked black peppercorns and let stand off the heat for 20 minutes. Strain the syrup into a jar, cover, and refrigerate for up to 3 weeks.
