“Happiness is the highest form of health.” – Dalia Lama

Our mind is incredible. Not only do our thoughts have the power to change our outlook, but they have the power to change our overall health. Just like we can either be happy or unhappy based on the way we think, we can also be healthy or unhealthy depending on our thoughts. Being optimistic may in fact help you live a longer, healthier life.

Better Immune Response

Your immune system is your only defense mechanism against harmful pathogens. So, if being positive can help your immune system, being an optimist may be incredibly beneficial to your health.

Research has found that your immune system may be affected by the way you think. Positive thinking has a powerful influence on how the immune system responds to illness. One study was able to conclude that negative thoughts led to a weaker immune response when given the flu vaccine. Similarly, psychological studies found that when people with positive thoughts contracted the flu, they were less symptomatic and recovered faster than those with negative thoughts.

Improved Stress Response

There’s no doubt that a positive thinker will have an easier time responding to a stressful situation than a negative thinker. This may be because they can cope better with stressful situations. One study found that when optimists were faced with disappointment, they focused on things they could do to improve the situation. A positive thinker is able to create a plan of action while a person with a negative thought process will see the situation as out of their control – causing additional stress.

Better Overall Health

Not only may being a positive thinker help your immune response and help you out in stressful situations, but it may have a great impact  on your overall health. There are many health benefits to having a positive outlook, including reduced risk of death from cardiovascular problems, less depression, and an increased lifespan. It still is unclear as to how a positive mindset is able to have such an incredible impact on your health, but the research is compelling. Many  believe that positivity leads to better lifestyle choices, and thus a better quality of life.

Create More Positive Energy

Being optimistic isn’t easy. We all have days when stress and unexpected events can put us in a negative space. But the more we try to look on the brighter side of things, and cultivate happiness, the better our health!

If you’re already a positive thinker, you are on the path to a long, healthy life. To those who have a more pessimistic outlook, being positive may take some work. Some believe aromatherapy may help bring positive energy to your days. You can begin with the Create a Perfect Day Kit from Youngevity which includes essential oils that can be rolled on throughout the day to deliver uplifting aromas.

Let’s try to live a long and healthy life together with positive thoughts and an optimistic approach!
