Let’s go for a walk

We’ve all been told that walking is the simplest way to move and support healthy weight and healthy joints. This is 100% true, there are even more health benefits to walking other than supporting your physical health. A review of studies found that walking significantly reduced anxiety in a group of participants with major depressive disorder. Likewise, a study published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine found that walking in nature can be especially effective at reducing stress levels.

Fortunately there are other mental benefits of a walk. Research has also found that walking can give you a mental boost in creativity and cognitive function. A Stanford study found that walking can increase creative thinking by up to 60% and was significantly higher when compared to sitting.

level up your mood with a walk

While your mental health gets a boost with a walk, your mood can also benefit from taking a stroll. Going for regular walks has been found to improve self-esteem, increase happiness and mood, and enhance emotional resilience. A study published in the Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that regular walking was associated with higher levels of self-esteem in both men and women. While similarly, Psychology Today reported that walking can lift your mood even when you’re not expecting it.  .

Share a smile and a wave

It’s no surprise that going for regular walks  can also provide a variety of social benefits. Walking is a  great opportunity for socializing, whether it’s with friends, family, or even strangers. Create social connections by sharing a smile or a wave on your walk. It’s one of the easiest ways to bring joy to you and a stranger.
