Marie Kondo Your Mind, Body, & Soul

Clutter can build up in many aspects of our lives. When we think of clutter, most of us think of the messy closets, living rooms, kitchen drawers, etc. However, our lives are surrounded by clutter – mental clutter, social clutter, even diet clutter. Opportunely, the arrival of spring gives us a chance to Marie Kondo our lives and toss out things that no longer bring us joy or serve a purpose.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Marie Kondo, she’s the star of the Netflix show, Tidying Up. She’s an organizing expert and uses the KonMari Method™ to help others tidy up their space. This method, however, can also be applied to many aspects of our lives.

Does your diet need an overhaul? Are their individuals in your life who are draining your energy? Do you have way too much on your plate at work? Make an inventory of things in your life that you feel may be weighing you down. Figure out where you want to get started and make a plan. Get rid of bad foods, bad friends, and bad energy.

Keep only the things that speak to your heart.

How often do we find ourselves surrounded by meaningless junk? Your work desk might be filled with old mail and clutter; your social calendar may be filled with events that don’t even bring you joy. Physical clutter in your space could also be causing you stress. So, let go of anything that is no longer necessary for you to be happy.

Thank them for their service – then let them go.

Most things that we are keeping in our lives brought us joy at some point. So, following Marie Kondo’s advice, it’s important to thank them for that and then let it go. Junk food may have made us happy at some point, but now it’s time to say goodbye. Same goes with a relationship that you’re still holding on to – let it go.

You’ll be surprised at how incredible you’ll feel when you start to get rid of the unnecessary clutter in your life. If you’re ready to simplify your life with some spring cleaning, grab a piece of paper and start to write down every area you feel is cluttered. Then prioritize and start letting things go. Get your mind, body, and soul ready for the spring.
