What Every Grad Needs to Know

Congratulations! You did it!

You studied hard, and whether you achieved your high school diploma and are ready to get away from your hometown to attend university – or you’ve earned your college degree and are heading towards a career you are passionate about – the world is your oyster! Though you have so many options in front of you, the thought of facing the world alone for the first time can be a scary thought.

So, here are some tips to help make it much easier:

Make sure you’re paying your bills on time.

Whether it’s a credit card, rent, or car payment – make sure you pay it on time! Developing good financial habits when you are young is one of the most important things you can do to ensure that you are setting yourself up to have good credit in the future.

Make sure you surround yourself with people who encourage you.

Surrounding yourself with friends who encourage you to strive to be better is one of the most important things you can do, now that you are branching out from your small, familiar circle. A big change, like graduating, calls for another big change in your life, and sometimes changing your friend group is necessary for living a good, fulfilling life.

Now is the time to learn how to cook and clean.

Sharing a college dorm room with a slob is no fun! If you’re not used to cleaning, learn before sharing a small space with another person! And for the college grads, learn how to cook! You’ll no longer be living in that confined space with nothing but ramen noodles and cafeteria food. From here on out, you’ll be responsible for cooking your own meals.

Exercise Regularly

College grads know that the freshman fifteen is all too real. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, college meals are limited to what you can make in the microwave, fast food, and what the cafeteria has to offer. So, high school grads, learn from those college grad’s mistakes! Make sure that you are taking advantage of your university’s gym to avoid gaining that freshman fifteen! And college grads, it’s not too late for you! Maybe you put on the freshman fifteen, but you can get rid of it easily by signing up for a local gym membership!
