How much water should you really be drinking?

What are your hydration requirements?

The general rule of thumb is that you need at least eight 8 oz. cups of water a day. This long-standing recommendation isn’t the end-all because no two individuals are the same. Each person has different hydration needs just as they require different nutritional needs. And let’s be honest, no one actually measures how many cups of water they’re drinking a day. Hydration requirements vary from person to person and change with circumstances.

In order to ensure you’re drinking enough water, all you really need to do is satisfy your thirst. Most health and wellness professionals suggest that you simply listen to your body and allow your thirst mechanisms and kidneys to guide your hydration requirements. This cue is usually enough to keep you properly hydrated. However, there are always exceptions to this rule. Many factors including exercise, environment, and certain health conditions will require you to be more attentive to your hydration.

Exercise

When exercising, especially during hot summer days, drinking enough water is vital. When you sweat, you lose fluids and minerals from your body that need to be replenished. Not only is it vital that you drink enough water, before, during and after a workout, but also consuming a mineral-rich drink, such as Rebound fx™ can help ensure you stay properly hydrated.

Environment

Residing in a warm or humid location can also make your body sweat more – even if you’re not exercising. This means you need to be more aware about adding more water throughout the day in warmer temperatures. Similarly, higher altitudes can also require additional hydration.

Health conditions

Like with exercise, certain illnesses will cause your body to lose fluids (i.e. fever, vomiting, or diarrhea). Under these health conditions, you’ll need to make sure you’re replacing lost fluids. Additionally, women who are pregnant or nursing will also require more water. Be sure to stay hydrated during these special circumstances.

Let your body do the work

Listen to your body and drink sensible amounts of water every day. If you feel thirsty, drink up! Remember, flavored waters, teas, and other juices can also help keep you hydrated; just make sure they’re not high in sugar! You can also and some Aquagevity™ tablets to your reusable Y-DR8+ Bottle for a refreshing spin to your water. Listen to your body and drink water when needed.

Remember, proper hydration is essential to a healthy lifestyle!
